You must determine, first, if it has fleas. If so, use Frontline on him. If it is not fleas, its skin is probably dry and would benefit from an addition of fatty suppliments added to its diet. Also, a good dog shampoo to relieve itching would be very beneficial for it.

You should take your dog to the vet to see if he has fleas, dry skin etc. Fleas are treated with medication. Dry skin can be treated with special shampoo.

There could be a reason as to why your dog is always scratching himself. Perhaps you should check him for fleas or perhaps even mits and make sure he doesnt have them. If so, this could be the reason why he is always scratching. I would take him to the Vet and get him treated.

A Good way to prevent it, would be to make sure that your dog gets enough exercise on a daily basic. Also, spend more time with your dog, show him affection and play with him. You could use a ball and have him to bring it back to you, he'll like.
