Practise first, dribbling up to the basket, and then taking a step towards it, and then gently laying the basketball against the backboard. Do this numerous times, and you should get it.

Lay-ups is one of the basic fundamentals of shooting a basketball, lay up generally begins with a motion of a player coming off a dribble or a pass, then taking a couple of steps and then easily letting the ball roll out of the players hand onto the direction of where the rim is.

To learn a layup you have to practice the motion of running towards the basket and taking two steps while picking up your dribble and laying the ball off the backboard into the net.

Just keep practicing. Make sure to practice with both hands though, it's very important to be able to finish with both hands. Stand under the rim with two balls, one in each hand and lay the balls up, that's a good drill.
