A coughing kitten, like a person usually needs something to soothe it's throat. if it keeps coughing the throat will have a much harder time healing. try some warm milk or atleast water. if the coughing persists, consult your vet to get medication to deal with the root of the cough.

You need to see a vet. If this is upper respiratory infection (URI) it will not go away on its own. If the kitten's nose is stuffed up and they can't smell their food, they will stop eating. URI's are very contagious, as well.

It may be an upper respiratory infection or a hairball. I helped my kitten with his infection by running hot water in the bathtub and shutting the door to make a steam room. The steam helped clear up the mucus. For hairballs, there are various diet supplements you can get.

It could be a number of things that are causing your cat to cough. It could just be a hairball, in that case you could buy the special cat food for hair balls. If that doesn't work, you should really take your cat to the vet.
