A u. S. government savings bond can be redeemed at any bank. You will need to have identification to prove that you are the owner of the bond. Also, if the bonds are not mature yet, they will be worth less than their face value.

Take savings bonds to your financial institution (bank, credit union, etc. ) to redeem them. Generally, you need to wait a while in order to receive "full value" on savings bonds because they have a lengthy time to maturity. If you redeem too early, you may not get face value, and in some cases you may not get what you paid.

You can cash savings bonds at most banks or credit unions if you present a valid ID. Some institutions may require that you have an account. To redeem electronic bonds, go top TreasuryDirect. gov.
