If you are looking for permanent waves, get a perm done at a salon. If you just want waves for a one-off occasion, there are a few options. What I do is sleep overnight with small sections of my hair wrapped in foam twists (or tinfoil), using lots of hairsprsy. Or use a curling iron closer to the event.

You can purchase a device that is similar to a crimper that actually adds waves instead of crimps. You could get this at a beautician supply story. A free way to add waves is to roll small sections of your hair up in tissues. Roll loosely and when you take the tissues out your hair will be wavey.

Sport N Waves works well on African American hair. First the hair should be washed and conditioned. The conditoner makes the hair soft, when drying hair leave it kind of damp. Apply the Sport N Waves and brush.

A good method is to wash hair at night before going to bed. once hair is washed, part hair into sections. Take each section that is parted, and braid them. Put elastics at the end of each braid. Let dry over night. Unbriad in the morning. Hair will be wavy for a day.

After washing hair put a hair styling mousse or gel on. Take some strands of hair not to many and wrap in a small roller. Do this all over the head. Use a hair dryer with a head cover on a medium heat drying the hair thoroughly. Leave the curlers in till the hair is cold, comb out.

Simply braid your hair and fasten it while it's damp or very wet and blow dry it, or just wait till it dries. You can also put your hair in a bun by twisting the hair while it's damp and then blow drying that also.
