Medicare usually will not pay for a nursing home if they know you have the ability to afford the cost on your own. The best bet is to reasses your financial situation.

You need Medicare Part A and you meet the eligibility requriements. Call your local Medicare office for details. Once in a Nursing Home you must continue to meet Medicare Criteria.

If you are presently covered by Medicare, you likely will be able to get short term ooverage - I believe that the time limit is on the order of 100 days. If your question is related to long term care, you have a problem. In that case, Medicaid is responsible. But, only after very restrictive financial standards are met.

Medicare will pay some nursing home costs under certain conditions. Medicare beneficiaries must go to a Medicare certified nursing home after a hospital stay of at least three days. For more information about Medicare's guidelines, contact the State Health Insurance Assistance Program or Medicare Fiscal Intermediary in your state.
