Immediately after feeding the dog, walk it until it pees. Also walk the dog when it first wakes up. Praise the dog with treats when it urinates outside.

Shove his nose in it where he wet, hit him on the rump with a newspaper, and shove his nose where you want him to go. Works through repetition.

This will work, but can lead to negative relationship with your dog. Best to consider other strategies.  add a comment

Ask your vet to make sure the dog doesn't have a bladder problem. If not, start rewarding the dog every time it does its business where it should.

After verifying with a vet that the dog has no health issues, you may want to consider crate training your animal.

If you can catch the dog in the act isolate him for 5–10 mins in a room with no people or toys. This type of punishment is very effective for social animals and will promote a healthy relationship between you and your pet.
