Doesn't the government say you can get a free credit report?

Why would you need to pay a service then?

You are entitled to pull your credit report for free once a year from each major credit agency, there are three. Most people pay for the service because they either go to the wrong website, are unaware of the free availability, or have used their free pulls.

The government allows you to get one free credit report a year. However, if you want to check your credit reports more often than once a year (say, every month), and you want to get reports from all three credit agencies, then you will need a credit service to help.
