Does Splenda not work as well as a sweetener for cold drinks like lemonade?

Yesterday, I made some lemonade from real lemons, used Splenda, and today the lemonade is tart. It was sweet enough yesterday. I dumped tons of Splenda in. I wonder if in this use Splenda can't substitute for real sugar.

Splenda works just as well as sugar for cold drinks, such as lemonade. However, when adding sugar to any drink, you want to make sure that the sugar gets evenly distributed throughout the mixture and doesn't all sink to the bottom.

Splenda works fine as real sugar. I think splenda is sweeter then sugar, so you do not need as much of it. Maybe you just didnt use enough of it.

Interesting, however, there are some commercially made drinks using Splenda, and they seem to taste good.

It's not that splenda is not a suitable substute for sugar, it's the application in which you used the spenda. As you said, you dumped tons of splenda in it, maybe you added too much. You need to keep in mind that adding too much sugar can be as bad as adding too little.

I don't know. To be honest splenda has a bitter after taste to me. Or perhaps the splenda settled to the bottom. But I'm sure you thought of that.

I find Splenda to be the best low-calorie sweetener for both hot and cold drinks. Maybe there is some reaction with the acid in lemons but I doubt it.

I agree that Splenda is the best low-calorie sweetener. People should realize that even though on the package they write "no calories" they are rounding down from 4 to zero which I think they are allowed to do. If you use a lot of it, the calories add up.  add a comment
