Do you need to underline grammar essay titles?

I am preparing a paper for school and need to know the right way to title the essay.

You do not. The title should be presented in standard title case. Depending on the level as which the essay is written (high school v. college), there is likely a standard style manual assigned by the teacher. The style manual will detail how titles are written.

No, you should definitely not underline the title of your essay. Just put it at the top of the paper, centered and double spaced (or 2 lines, if using paper) from your opening sentence. The only time you need to underline any part of your essay's title is if it includes the name of a book or song.

Yes, you can underline the title or write the title in bold letters. Usually the title goes in the middle of the line with your name underneath it and date to the side.
