The judge will evaluate the case. Much depends on the nature of the perjury, how it affected the case and the background/record of the individual committing the perjury. Most states have sentencing guidelines that include a fine and/or jail time. It's up to the judge then to decide where the matter falls within those perimeters.

You can go to jail for perjury, or receive a fine. If someone else goes to jail or has property falsely repossessed because of the perjury, then the perjurer WILL go to jail.

Yet it is very possible to go to jail. The usual time is supposed to be seven years but if this is a first time offense ususally the judge gives a fine and maybe community service and a stern warning.

Yes, but the prosecutors office will rarely begin proceedings without some sort of outside pressure to do so. The prosecutors office would also have to prove what the person said was perjury. To be perjury the statement must be under oath and be false or misleading. It cannot be someones opinion or an assumption.

The laws concerning perjury vary from state to state. It is usually a felony, however, and can involve jail time.
