This should only be done by a qualified veterinarian. Some dog breeds generally have their tails docked while other breeds do not. It is mostly a cosmetic procedure that is usually not necessary.

Unless you plan to raise the puppy for show, most people do not clip their tails unless there is a health concern. If your puppy does need to be clipped it is best to have a licensed vet or an experienced breeder perform the clipping so there is less of a chance for infection.
