This depends on your own personality. Women can be more clean and organized than men, however this can lead to obsessive compulsive tendencies. Other women can be drama queens and incredibly disorganized. Men however, vary from neat, organized, and mature to incredibly immature and loud. This really depends on both your personality and your flatmate's personality.

I have had several apartment-mates, and gender is not a very good predictor... its the personality of the candidate and the match with your personality that matters more. For example, if you are a clean-freak, you'll want a clean flatmate. Gender is not an informative indicator.

Men make better flatmates. They tend to rely on their own things and stay in their own space. Women tend to borrow clothes and even food and it becomes an issue when they are not returned. The only challenge with men is if they are unwilling to help in the cleaning. This can cause resentment and a dirty place.

No, no gender makes for a better flatmate. Stereotypically men are more fun to live with and women will be cleaner, but there are always exceptions to this 'rule'. Try both going out and staying in with any potential flatmates of either gender before actually committing to live with them.

That depends on your personality! Women are generally considered to be neater and more considerate about their flatmates wants and needs. However, there may be more drama with women. Men are generally more low-maintenance, but they tend to be a bit messier and may think more about themselves. Women are often more interested in talking than men.
