Emily Post says the Engagement Ring must be returned. If the man is any kind of a gentleman he will say "It was a gift". Why would he want to keep it? To throw in his drawer for the next girl to come along. That would be humiliating to find you were wearing someone else's ring.

No. An engagement ring is not offered in exchange for the lady's acceptance of the gentleman's proposal. Rather, it is a gift from the gentleman to the lady on the occasion of her acceptance. Because it is a gift, it need not be returned. It is good form to return the ring if it is a family heirloom.

I say no. I'm sure he thought about the ring situation before he broke up with you. He would have asked for it if he felt he deserved to get it back. Keep the ring. Whatever that ring may have cost your fiancee, it will never pay for the heartache you suffered.

No, the ring was a gift that you accepted with the intention of marrying the man. The only time that isn't the case, is if the ring is a family heirloom meant to be passed down through generations. Then it might be proper to return it as a kindness to the women in the family.

If he ended the relationship in good terms, I believe you should be returning the ring. After all, if he figures now that the relationship cannot be everlasting, he is saving both of you the pain and trouble of going through fights, arguments, and a divorce in the future. He is doing this for the benefit of both of you.

If this ring is an old family heirloom then you should hand it back. Other than that if he ended the relationship and it's a nice ring then you should keep it, or even better sell it if it's worth a reasonable amount and have fun with the money. This might help you get over the relationship!

Yes. The engagement ring belongs to the man until you are married.

The ring always belong to the man if he pay for it. It is no gift. It is part of contract that must be fulfilled.
