Do employees have to pay for drive-offs?

Check your employee handbook or ask your supervisor about responsiblity for drive-offs. Most larger companies have policies in place to address questions like this. If you've had a drive-off, you aren't the first and certainly won't be the last worker with this problem. If there are a number of drive-offs, you might suggest to management what could resolve the issue.

I worked for a gas station where if you have 3, after that you must pay for them. So 3 warnings I guess, and then it comes out of your pocket. Pretty messed up I think.

That mainly depends on the owner of the company. If the owner feels that the drive off was something that the employee could have prevented then they can make the employee pay for it.

I know this one from personal experience, yes, they do for most service stations. Though that isn't a widely known or touted fact. The company I was with required the employee to either pay for the drive off or take a series of write ups with subject to firing.
