Can you use a mason jar to make an aquarium?

I want to have an aquarium but don;t want to spend a lot of money.

Yes. Your best bet will be a single betta. Other fish need more room to swim and have specific temperature needs which will be impossible to meet in a jar.

You could, but it would be pretty unkind to the fish to make them live in such a small space. It would be like you living in a closet for your entire life! A goldfish bowl is a better choice and costs less than ten dollars at any pet store.

Yes, a mason jar can be an aquarium. A Betta fish would be the best choice for this because they are a reletively low maintenance species. Just be sure to clean the jar and supply fresh water every other day.

It is too small for an aquarium unless you want one betta (siamese fighting) fish, or one or two little gold fish. Clean it with salt and water, NOT soap.

Yes this has been done. You will not be able to keep much in the tank but all you need is an air pump, air stone and light. The air pump and stone will provide surface agitation andoxygenation in the jar. A clip on light can be used too.
