I wouldn't reccomend painting formica. The paint won't adhere to the smooth surface. The surface of the formica is not something that can be changed by sanding to make it rougher. Your best bet is to remove the formica and replace it with something else. If this isn't cost effective I would suggest an inexpensive laminate to cover the formica.

Yes, If you take sandpaper and rough up the formica paint will stick. Try to find a good oil-base paint instead of water-base. Make sure you wipe the surface down with a good cleaner before you paint the surface.

Yes you can paint over Formica. It really isn't all too difficult especially since the surface is usually smooth. First you need to make sure that the surface is smooth, and you have the appropriate paint to paint it with. The best would be a spray paint, which will go on much more evenly. Go to Home depot for suggestions.

You can paint over formica but I don't know how it would look. You would have to sand it a little for the paint to stick and them put down a primer. You may want to use a a spray paint and a clear coat. This would add durability to the surface.

It is possible to paint over pretty much anything, including formica. However, it does need to be properly prepared and applied. Start by sanding all of the surfaces that will be painted. Also, prime all the surfaces being painted first.

To paint over formica use sandpaper to dull the surface, cover with a couple of coats of primer then paint as normal.

If you are talking about countertops you can do this, but it has to be okay around food. You will also need to put a sealer on it.

Yeah, that should be fine. Just make sure that you don't overdo it with the paint as there can sometimes be adverse reactions with formica.
