One thing to always check is electrical wiring. A loose or burned out wire can cause components to fail. Also check the capacitors and any electrical breakers to make sure nothing was tripped. After checking that make sure your thermostat is working properly and then if needed check the refrigerant charge. After that most problems are components failing.
