Jovial is a particular kind of cheerful. It is most similar to jolly and friendly, in the spirit of someone who enjoys parties and group activities. Jovial people are marked by a particular social enthusiasm.

"Jovial" means "jocular" or "good humored". Sam was the most jovial of all the party, which was a complete change from his usual dour demeanor. Clarence was the complete opposite of Sam by endeavoring to lighten grim office meetings with his jokes.
