You can file in any state without a lawyer. Just call your county courthouse for filing fees and instructions on how to proceed on your own.

If your divorce is relatively simple, and you have no children or property to divide, it is possible to complete the forms yourself or with the help of a knowledgeable friend. Using an attorney is always a better idea though, especially in custody and property matters.

Although it may be possible to obtain a divorce in Kentucky without hiring a lawyer, it would not be the smartest thing to do. Contact your local Legal Aid group to take advantage of free or low-cost legal advice.

No. A lawyer is not needed. It would be a good idea to have one though when it comes to dividing up property and custody of children.

Yes. The paperwork can be quite confusing, but you can represent yourself. Having someone in legal aid assist in looking over the documents would be best.
