Smoking will damage your lungs, reducing your ability to sing, and also change your voice by damaging your vocal cords. No serious singer should smoke.

I started smoking at 12 years old and I am now 22. I currently smoke 10 to 20 a day.I am a trained singer but I haven't sung since I was 17/18. My voice deteriorated from about 16. Would I be able to sing again if I stopped smoking?  add a comment

Definitely. Since smoking can affect the lungs significantly, this means it can also affect one's singing voice. Most people when they smoke will suffer from reduced lung capacity (a very small handful seem to have a better capacity), and also run the risk of forming bad coughs among other things.

Yes, smoking can change the sound of your voice and that also means it will change your singing voice. If you ever talk to someone that has smoked for many years, you will notice they have a raspy voice. That is caused by the damage smoking does to respiratory system.

Yes it can. Smoking is harsh on your vocal cords. If you're a heavy smoker it can cause asthma or even a raspy voice.
