Mites stay on dogs because their blood is hotter than humans. Unlike fleas, mites will only affect a dog, but they should be treated by a vet as this is a rather irritating parasite for a dog to have to endure. Mites tunnell into the skin and can cause infections.

Ear mites do not live on humans. Sarcoptic mange mites and Cheyletiella mites can short term infect a human's skin causing itching, irritation and perhaps a rash but they cannot survive or reproduce on humans. Using a shampoo or wash designed to eliminate human lice infections can help clear up any short term irritation from the dog mites.

In rare cases they can. Most often they only transfer between animal to animal. If you think you've gotten mites there is some good news for you. Mites cannot live in the human body very long and will die.

Sarcoptic mites can go from dogs to humans, it cause itchiness and redness of the skin similar to dogs, demodex mange on the other hand is not passed to humans as this burrow under the dog's skin and feeds on dogs fats. For the other mites be careful of it because you might get it.
