Enter engineering menu on the navigation system, and go to Software Parameters Change the Region to ECE (2) Turn the car off for 5 minutes. Insert European Navigation DVD, and follow the on-screen instructions. You will need to leave the car idling for about an hour and a half, and there's a disc change after about an hour and 15 mintues.

A GPS will work over the entire surface of the planet, but most automobile navigation systems have only been loaded with road maps for their country of intended use. You may have to load the European road map database. Your Mercedes dealership should be able to help you find and load the data.

I have contacted Comand uk, the maker for the Nav system for the Mercedes. I have a USA 2008 C300 Sport W204 with APC NTG-4 Comand navigation systemthat I brought to Germany with me. The folks at Comand say that the European map DVD will not load on an American Mercedes.

Yes, they use the American satellites. Providing you have the right cards, you should be fine. However, Europe is planning to buit their own system to not be depending on the American army.

Being that your car was assembled in Germany, I would hope that it functions in Europe. You may need to update your gps though. Contact a Mercedes dealer and ask them how you would do this for your particular year and model.

The ability to use your navigation will depend on the type of device you have installed. Most navigation systems require that you download maps to the device from the internet, others have them pre-installed right when you open the box. Either way, it will work while you are in europe.
