Debt collection is regulated by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. There are penalties to collectors who violate the rules set forth by the FDCPA. Make sure you review the Act so that you are aware of what a debt collector can and cannot do.

You can sue anybody you want. The question is "Is the complaint valid? ". I know a lot of people who has a problem with debt collectors. I am not sure if they had filed a lawsuit. It will be an interesting case for sure. Call your personal attorney maybe to seek for advice.

Only if they took more than actually owed, tacked on illegal fees, or leaked your personal information to others. If they violated the Fair Debt Collection and Practices Act, you can both sue and have the FTC shut them down.

You can sue a debt collector if they do something illegal. The Fair Credit act includes a lot of things that debt collectors cannot do.
