Can I retrieve my stored phone numbers in a cellphone I accidentally washed?

I have a Nextel-like phone.

Remove the battery and let the phone dry thoroughly, - often it will recover. DO NOT put phone or battery in the oven, and don't use a hairdryer on the battery.

It depends on how much water damage occurred. Interestingly, a way to try fixing the phone is to first remove the battery and then stick the phone into a bowl of dry rice. The rice will absorb the moisture from the phone, which may fix it.

Soon after his cell phone problem, my friend was told to do the exact same thing with the rice. Thank you!!  add a comment

Yes. Turn the phone off. Place the phone in a container of dry rice. Leave the phone overnight. This will help remove moisture from the phone. Then try accessing your contact information normally. If that doesn't work, remove the SIM card from your phone and take it to your carrier's store. They will probably charge you.

It is unlikely you will be able to retrieve the numbers, but it is possible if the phone uses a sim card it may be possible. The phone itself is most likely damaged beyond repair but if the sim card is dry it may be able to be put into another phone to retrieve the numbers.

You can possibly get them back if you saved your phone numbers not on the cell phone hard drive but on your sim card. If the numbers are on the sim card just place the sim card in a new phone and you should be able to get them back.

It happened to me the same. Took the sim card and let it dry. Just let the phone dry for two to four days and don't switch it on before.
