Absolutely. Cooking oil, like anything else, will go bad after a prolonged period of time. How long is based on the type of oil, how/where it is stored, and the ambient temperature of the storage location. What items are stored nearby the oil also can have an effect on spoilage. In some circumstances, old cooking oil can be reused.

Although vegetable cooking oils have a relatively long shelf life if stored properly -- in dark, cool, dry conditions -- it is possible for them to spoil. Give the sniff test to oils you have had for more than six months, and discard those with a rancid smell.
