Can a company tell if you have used online resume templates?

Isn't it better to have a unique resume? Why or why not?

There is a finite number of formats for a resume. Use the simplest, most direct, easy-to-read resume format you can find. The company is looking for two or three things and will scan one page to find them. Don't get fancy, cute or clever. It's annoying.

There are only so many formats for a resume. Use one that is brief, to the point and that addresses the specific areas that apply to the position.

Many online resume submission forms are designed to accept standard resume templates. Creating something too unique could cause it to be rejected during initial automated screening.
