At what age does someone usually take their first holy communion?

In the Catholic Church, the sacrament of baptism is a pre-requisite for the reception of first holy communion. While this usually occurs around the age of 7-8 in the US, a person can be baptized at any time of life and begin receiving communion.

It usually happens after children complete the 2nd grade in school,but it is up to the parents when their child is ready. In adults, after completing the RCIA program.
