Ferrets make great pets. The problem is the American population of ferrets has a small gene pool and they have a lot of genetic problems that crop up. Look for a European ferret breeder. It will cost though.

There are vey few legitimate breeders who would ship their ferrets. Those that will, have a very stringent policy, which would protect the animal.

Sometimes when animals are shipped it causes them undue stress. You should go to various pet shops and pick out your own animal. This way, you can make sure for yourself that the animal is healthy. You must make sure that ferrets are legal to own in your area.

You may not have to get it shipped. Look on craigslist or in the paper to see if anyone would like to sell or get rid of the ferrett.

You should really research what's involved in their care and feeding. Ferrets are very high maintenance and they have some annoying habits that people don't generally warn you about. Once you've got all the information search for a breeder near you so you can interact with the animal first.
