Silver medallions are often worth more that the silver they consist of. Their historical value, age, rarity and state of preservation are also important determinants of worth.

Silver medallions have no monetary value. They are made to commemorate a person, action, deed or event.A silver medallion could become valuable after you melt it down and make it into something else. The silver medallion could be valuable if someone famous or infamous owned it or had it made.Silver coins are valuable not silver medallions.

They can be. In considering the value of precious metals, one of the biggest factors is the weight. As of May of 2010, an ounce of silver was worth almost $19.00. The value of a silver medallion would depend on how much "actual" silver is present in the medallion as opposed to alloys that may be mixed in, and weight.
