There is nothing wrong with giving money as a gift for a birthday. You should put a note in the card with it suggesting what can be bought with it. For example: if it is for your sister, you can write "Please enjoy a lunch at your favorite restaurant on me! "

Monetary gifts are usually preferred because that allows the receiver to choose what the might want. However, significant others generally prefer thought behind the gift, not just cash.

Nope. Every year for Christmas and for my birthday I would get money in a card. Only one person buys me gifts that I open. I prefer it that way.

No, it isn't wrong to give money as a birthday gift. However, it is still best to give something which you thoughtfully chose for the celebrant. It only shows that you actually care for him or her.

No. While it seems rather impersonal to give someone money for their birthday most people actually really appreciate it. With money they are able to buy what they actually want instead of getting something that they may not like.

I need a short phrase or way of telling people that I prefer cash gifts for my daughter's sweet sixteen.
