Anything that makes a coin unique automatically makes it worth more. It does depend on the specfic coin and what is wrong with it. For example, if the coin were run over by a truck it would be unique but hardly valuable.

Any coin misprinted or otherwise irregular is more valuable than a conventional coin. Thus a misprinted silver dollar is worth more than the regular ones.

In numismatic circles, coin significance, rarity, beauty, metal composition, and condition play into establishing a value. Mis-struck coins are typically valued more highly by collectors and often command a premium price. Unique or low-quantity batches are especially valuable. This is a general phenomenon for most collectable items such as stamps, currency or books.

Misprinted or mismarked coins of any kind can be worth more than regular ones. For one thing, misprinted silver dollars are more rare.
