Are kids' sandboxes dangerous?

Can't people hide nasty things in them?

Yes they are. Open sandboxes could contain all kids of undesirable objects not to mention that they might be used as a litter box. I would stay away from them unless it's in your own backyard and is covered when not in use. If your child likes to play with sand, save it for the beach.

Public sandboxes do pose risks for your children as there is no telling what's been in them. There is a risk of contracting potentially dangerous diseases if animals have used them as toilet places, for example. My advice is to have a sandbox at home – you can keep a close eye on what it is used for that way.
